My windshied wipers on my 2000 Venture Van return to the verticla position when turned off. When they run in intermittant mode, they pause at the horizontal position, just as they should, but when I switch them off, they move up to the vertical position. If I push them down to the horizontal position, as soon as the wipers turn on, they go back to the vertical position when turned off.

Does anybody know how to reset the wipers, if that can be done?

Has anyone touched your wipers or removed them recently? Are both of them doing this, or just one? It could be a sign of a bad motor, but if it is both I would suspect something else is wrong.

There are bolts at the bottom of most wipers. Loosen the bolt an gently put the wipers down from the vertical position to the correct position and re-tighten the bolt. That should fix it.

Maybe the wires are backwards? :D

1) Yes, both wipers are doing this.

2) I haven't touched a thing in terms of wiring, multi-position switch, etc. (yet).

My service manual doesn't cover this problem; it only mentions checking fuses or replacement of the multi-positon switch. I really don't want to tear into the steering column. I've been inside a couple steering columns before and none of them ended up with a happy ending.

We've had a lot of snow lately, and it has accumulates pretty heavy at the bottom of the windshield, and the only thing I can figure is that the controller thinks the wipers are in a position different from where they really are. Maybe if I re-position them, I can get them back in synch with the controller.

Thanks for the suggestions.

ObseSSed - How do you like your Trailblazer? I had an '02 with the straight-six, and it was a gutty little motor. I couldn't imagine how that truck moves with a 6.0L.

I figured it out; on top of the wiper motor, there is a little rachet-like tab with a V-notch that allows the linkage to move in one direction when the wipers are working, but when you turn the wipers off, the motor reverses and the tab is supposed to contact a stop which will only allow the wipers to reverse 5 degrees or so, which would park them at the bottom of the windshield. Well, the rachet-tab wasn't pivoting freely, and when the wipers went into reverse mode to park, the linkage was allowed to turn 180 degrees, which parked them in the vertical position. I rapped it with a screwdriver a couple times, and then left the cover off and power washed it, and they've been working fine since.
