Recently a friend gave me a 92 olds, 98 regency elite. The ABS lite is on, my friend said that she had the problem fixed but the shop did not clear the lite.
This car was from South Caroline, they do not have state inspections, now I have it in North Carolina and we do have State Inspection. I took it to Advance Auto they told me I have to bring it to the dealer to have it done. Is it true and can I have it done without bringing it to the dealer? Any input is apreciated. Thank You, David.

Very basics:

Check to make sure the fuse isn't burnt. Next in line, hook up a code reader (or get a friend/shop that does), and figure out the code meaning (your friend with the code reader should be able to look it up for you).

if it was fixed, than reseting the computer will help, disconect the battery, keep it off for about 2 hours, connect it , if the problem was fixed before than, abs light, it shouldn't go off anymore, if it does than it wasn't fixed, take it to a shop than, or check abs the sencors, by the wheels, for physicle damage, if they look ok, than take to a shop, they need to read comp. err.codes.
