 I was wondering what generation talon would be best for building a tsi awd? I know the 1st gen is the lightest but are there other things I should know about 1st gen that could be better of worse then the 2nd gen. Thanks

I prefer the 2nd gen, simply because they're notoriously more reliable, a reputation which will only grow as the first-gen models age and more faults are discovered. Also, 2nd gen models are still reasonably-priced, perhaps moreso than the less reliable first-gen models. Either vehicle is fantastic, though, if you have the budget.

I like the 1st gen... I like the way it looks a lot better than the 2g. It's basically your preference. The 6 bolt motors in some of the 1g's are better than the 7 bolt in the 2g's.

Many guys who have built both up will tell you they prefer Gen I. My brother in law being one of them. With alot of the same parts, he made his Gen I faster than his Gen II.

I prefer 1g but it's your pref., 2g is good too but I like the 6 bolt engine over the 7 bolt engine.

not sure where you get your info, but the seconds gens are more notorious for having crank walk with there 7 bolt engine. the first gens with there 6 bolt dont have it at all really. research more before you say something.
anyway, first gen all the way. lighter and overall more reliable.
1g 6 bolt... cheaper and easier to make fast... 2g's 7 bolt have crank walk!
and what the guy above me said.. hahaha.. i just read that!!

1g's are definitely more reliable with the 6-bolt engine. Even the 1gbs that have the 1st 7 bolt are better than the 2g 7bolt. 2g (2ga and 2gb) both suck with their 7-bolts.
I prefer my 2g with its 6 bolt swap.

my idea build up a 1st gen the're just better, but use the 2nd gen pistons for a little higher compression, and use a mitsu 14b turbo that should get u a neat car
