It is typical that car companies chane their body styles every 7 years. I just saw an ad. on edmunds that the new 2009 5 series is coming out in Fall 08'(thats only 5 years). Do you think there is a reason for this. Do you think that the 6 series body will stay for 7 years?

they aren't really any set gaps between models now i think the minimum target is 4 years before changing for most but due to the constatnt advance in technology they have obviously decided to redo it and as we haven't seen any pics yet it could only be a minor facelift or extention etc

With the older styles, they were always good looking and never went out of style really. The new ones, with their more avant-garde styling, will need to be changed sooner since many people are not fans of them.

Subaru's change every 2 years typically. The body stays the same but the front end changes.

99% of car makers with make slight alterations every year just to keep a fresh look and keep the sales up. Hell, Honda makes a change major change every 3 years.

I think 7 years is a long time, but, the issue with the higher end cars is not sales, but cost of R&D and the amount of money they have to pay to come up with a totally new body.
