so the time has come to get a new exhaust for my s10. it has worn out (and rusted a bit) right after the y in the custom built exaust that was on it when i got it.. i love the exhaust, but its too loud at cruising (cops follow me at night when im doing the speed limit trying to tailgate me to get me to speed, and i feel bad when i go out early and come home late with it). i want an aftermarket exhaust still (theres no mufflers i could find right now on the truck, so i hope anything will be quieter). i have the 4.3L v6 4WD, 2 door extended cab. where can i find a nice cat-back system for the truck? i havent been able to find one yet.

thanks

Idk, i used a 12 inch glass pack on my last truck, it was a v6 ranger, 91 4x4. i just added a tip to lower the noise, it wasn't loud, just kept you from hearing the winding engine.

a turn down exhaust tip would help some

im gonna crawl under the truck later and take a picture/sound clip of whats on it now.. i love the mellow tone to it, but id love it to be a little lower and quieter at cruising speed. id try to salvage the current pipes, but theres two problems. 1, i already patched one side and somehow its rusted beyond the patch, so what actually makes it to the exhaust tip is lucky, because theres a half inch rusted out gap between y pipe and the piece to the tip. and 2 the entire custom ehaust is welded together (sloppy joints, could be how enough water got in to rust the pipe). it did it on one side first, and recently did it on the second side, but my dad, who owns the truck says its time for a new exhaust, since he works odd hours during the winter, and it wakes him up.

My friend had flowmaster i believe on his Blazer with the 4.3. It sounds really good and isn't overly loud.

theres a ton of exhausts on the market for s10s.. but 99% are for 2 door or 2wd it seems.. ive got the 3 door (ext. cab) 4wd... even JC whitney (used to have one and) doesnt have the exhaust for my truck anymore..

Dynomax is one of the best mufflers you can get.

wound up with the slowmaster because it was free to ship, and with the shipping on the dynomax it was more money, and since i wasnt the one paying for it, i wound up with the cheapest one

and once i get it i see its both resonated and muffled.. oh boy this should be interesting to see how quiet it is now

so the flowmaster gets a b on my ratings...

i break it down like this:
sound d- (way too quiet)
durability: a
ease: a
look:c
power increace: a+ (burn out when it usually doesnt do anything)
bang for the buck: c

getting a new muffler for it soon and polishing the end up becuase it looks like crap, but i miss my dual with the blown out glass pack that was so small i never knew it was there. too bad it was rusted beyond repair... (had a 3 inch gap between y pipe and the rest of the pipe, and the rest was brittle and rusted, the pipe BROKE when tapped with a hammer in the middle of the section i removed first.)

any way i can mod the turndown end of the pipe to be a regular style with a polished tip? also any good muffler i can throw on to replace the 50 series suv performance muffler to get more sound? the resonator really kills it.. i may go buy a piece of patch tube and pull the muffler entirely for a while even.
