i just bought my first import. im not to sure where to start as far as throwing shit on the engine and tranny. ive worked in a speed shop for a few years with my dad but we all do muscle cars. so, whats a good way to spend 15k on a 97' 3000GT VR4?

Ive already decided to get 2 Greddy TD04L-13G's, and HKS Exhaust. I need to know what to do as far as transmission as well, ive already been told to replace the synchronizers with a better aftermarket one, and im going to replace the clutch and the pressure plate.

so, what to buy?

i'm guessing you won't be doing any of the work yourself so some of that $15K is going towars labor.

if you have 15k and that's all you have you should probably keep like 2-3 of it just in case something goes wrong with the car after you have it all set up

Then you should already know the answer to your question if you can do all the work yourself. But yeah get some performance tires, brake kit, MBC, Fuel upgrade, clutch, built the engine up, dunno if you need a logger for a 3000gt, reduce the weight, FMIC, Nitrous, And beef up the suspension. And there's a bunch of little things that i didn't mention

does it have rims? slicks would be cool. what do you plan on doing with the car? racing? show? auto cross?

you got a vr4 huh. that's what i've been interested in. i'm looking as of right now. as long as everything on it is ok and in good working condition then definitely get the cold air intake to help push those turbos. install a computer chip. not to mention that you got 15k to work with, i wish i was in your shoes. i personally love those cars. 96-99 models.

dont get greddys turbos, dont. 3SX sells BOMB replacemnt turbos, the Executioners are awsome for drag/race. Also go fmic, tein coilover all around, cf hood/hatch/doors and ne other body panel you can find. Also get rid of the active areo and the ECS, youll save a good 100 - 150 pounds on that alone. Try and find a Brembo big brake kit, and i reccomend sum nitto tires, NT-1's fo sho. If you do all the work, you might have sum money left over for anyother nic nacks you wish to get. I sugest after that, get some forged pistons/connectingrods/crankshaft then work youre way up to beefing the top end.

what's active aero? i'm assuming the ecs is the rear wheel steer

active areo is how you wave at people behind you, lol. Its a control unit for youre spoiler, to change its location based on speed and the like, creating downfoprce when nessecary.

ECS is Electronic Controled Suspension, its bassiacly old school EDFC, and it wieghs a s*** load and isnt very good, but beter than say just shocks/struts.

and rear wheel steering is part of the AWS, on all VR4's, dont get rid of it, it is a great thing for handeling, but if you ever plan on doing aggresive track, look into a way to turn it on/off

the first thing you need to do is work on the motor. after that is beefed up get a bugger turbo and intercooler. after that go with cams and cam gears a full turbo back exhaust and an intake manifold and all the goodies. it will be worth it when you are done. also you casn go with new paint and rims.
