Did you ever find how to top up your hood and whether it has to be up or down? I am in exactly the same position and would welcome any help!!

Appologies for resurrecting this two year old thread... I'm having the exact same issue after finding out that my power hood reservoir leaked itself empty.

From what I can tell, it appears to be some kind of oil... :headscrat

Ok so for anyone who hasn't managed to get the hood working I spent 6 hours working on the car on monday and finally got the power hood working. I'm leaving this reply as i'm sure there are other people out there like me who found no information anywhere (including my trusty haynes manual!) as to how to fill the pump and get the hood working.

The pump along with reservoir is located (in my rover 216 k reg) on the left hand side of the boot. I took the whole thing off by removing the nuts and bolts and there is a screw/nut looking thing or whatever you wanna call it on the side about half way down (just about the reservoir). Remove this then fill with fluid (mine came with it the car when i bought it but i assume its something you can pick quite easily from halfords or something), i had to fill the reservoir then hold the button to fill the pipes (as they were empty) then refill the reservoir again. You will have to hold down the button for a while to get the fluid through all the pipes, but after doing this it should work.

Hope that help.

Nice one!
Unfortunately I don't know which grade of hydraulic oil to fill my resorvoir up with, would you be able to tell me the details of yours?

Many thanks,

Richard.
