I have a 3.3L V6 1992 Buick Century Station Wagon. It only has 118,000 miles on it but is having transmission problems. It is an automatic and has recently started having problems downshifting when I slow down. I have checked the trani fluid and it is fine. The weird thing is that this is not a constant problem, it only happens sometimes. As I slow down, the whole car begins to shake as it tries to downshift. Anyone else experience this sort of problem? Any suggestions? :dunno:

Sounds like a 1st gear band problem to me. There are adjustment screws for it, but i wouldn't suggest doing this unless you know what you're doing.

How much would you guess it should cost to have the 1st gear band adjusted?

Depends on who's doing it. I can't see it being more than 60 to 80 dollars. Run it by a tranny shop and ask their advice.
