Have a 94 Geo Tracker 8 valve 1.6L 3 speed auto..

The vehice runs at the moment but wont for a whole lot longer.. The vehicle has been abused by me as well as previous owners... it has 160k on it,, pretty suprising it still works considering.. The block is probably cracked, cannot know for sure at this point in time.

Wondering if a 2.0 and tranny from a newer chevy tracker will work.. assuming I will need an ECU from one and possibly a rear differential, fuel pump etc, etc...

What would be the most practical and cost effective thing to do if not? Would prefer a brand new engine and tranny other than one used, what would work?(junking it is not an option, like it too much)

I'm not sure how easiy it will be to put in, but with enough work you could get anyhting to fit. To me the most practical thing would be to find a motor from the same generation tracker that you have now.

I agree w/ the thread above for daily driving. IF you're into off-roading there are a big bunch of engines, etc. that will fit in the Tracker.... Most common are Toyota engines/running gear and a VW diesel will fit too - that will boost HP and fuel mileage.
For every day use, I'd keep the same stuff it came with and add performance mods. There are several companies that have Tracker "enhancements".
