Hows the reliability on a 2001 jetta?

Well like any other car they have their pro's and cons but overall they are normally very reliable with proper mantience. I would need to know what motor and what trans and other options the car has to get into more details

I don't know anything about the car, my friend was just mentioning that he was looking at it. So just thought I would ask cause I have heard that they suck.
