It does look similiar to the Commander. Although for some reason I like the Commander way, way, WAY more.

I also like the new Grand Cherokee SRT-8...

The difference, Hissus, is the size. This is smaller than a Liberty and built on the same platform as the new jeep Compass (read unibody)

I am liking this car. It is catching a lot of flak from loyalist, but I am thinking about getting one. http://www.jeeppatriotonline.com/ Seems to really like it but they are probably biased. The Compass on the other hand is garbage. I've sat in one.

dont bother with it. youd be better off with a liberty or compass. the compass body and drivetrain has a harder time driving around the extra weight. and the liberty is much more suited for off road.

NOT a fan.

I can't beleive Jeep is building vehicles that AREN'T trail rated. It's just a way for Diamler to cash in on some brand equity built up by Jeep to sell vheap disposable commuters. I think it's cheap and I think it degrades the brand.

Obviously so. Though, the Compass is much, much worse.

The Compass is just a Jeep badged Caliber.

:-(

I've seen these in person. What a vicious raping of the XJ legacy (the Patriot). Uglier than sin.

the patriot will be trail rated with the addition of freedom drive 2, which adds a hill descent control and low range to go with improved ground clearance and skid plates versus its sisters the compass and caliber. it is therefore smaller than the liberty, but it offers city gas mileage in the low 20s, which pretty much blows the liberty away from an economy standpoint.

it also offers safety features such as standard side curtain airbags, abs, stability control, and rollover mitigation

both the compass and patriot are really geared towards the vast majority of entry-level compact suv buyers whose worst-case scenario is pulling out of a snow-covered parking lot at the end of the work day. their secondary reason for existence is to cultivate the next generation of jeep brand loyalists, since the old buy-in was the wrangler, but now the wrangler has so much hardware built into it that its sticker price can be too high to really be "entry-level"

furthermore, the grand cherokee laredo with a 3.7L v6 and quadra-trac 1 is NOT trail rated, so it's not really jeep's first suv to miss out on the distinction.

I like a lot of the new models, but they better not forget what made Jeeps the classic icons they are.
