Thats a good car. How much did u get it for? Ive been looking for a 93' for under 8 grand. Also i would start with a cold air intake to get that twin turbo's full power.

Start with full exhaust, intake, and a tune.

I got it for $7000 on Ebay. It has 92,000 mile and from what I can tell is in really good shape. It had a K&N cold air intake on it when I bought it , but I'm not sure which model it is.

I'm trying to figure out by talking to people, instead of salesmen, what setup I want in the end, so I can start piecing it together now. My main concern is double purchasing. I don't want to buy either a mid grade part or an irrelavant part now and then have to repurchase a high grade part later. I have done a few hobbies like that it the past and they didn't work out the best for me.

One more thing, I did read on Wikipedia The monster of the family and the reason why the 3000GT & Stealth is well known, the VR4 surpasses the rest in multiple aspects. Powered by a well built 3.0 L DOHC 24-valve, twin-turbocharged, twin-intercooled V6, the VR4 produced either 300 bhp at 6000 rpm and 307 ft·lbf of torque at 4500 rpm (10 pounds/square inch of boost in the 1991 to 1993 models), or 320 bhp at 6000 rpm and 315 ft·lbf of torque at 2500 rpm (12 pounds/square inch of boost in the 1994 to 1999 VR4s). To compensate for the lost power in the 1991 to 1993 era, (because of the lower boost), a modification called the "Free Boost Modification" was made to increase the first generation VR-4 boost from 10 pounds/square inch of boost to 12 pounds/square inch of boost. This would successfully make the 3000GT VR-4 first generation make equal power to the second and third generation 3000GT VR-4.

If I purchase a larger stage 5 or 6 turbo set up that comes with a turbo timer would I still need this "Free Boost Mod" or would it become obsolete after I upgrade my turbo?

Also same question about the exhaust. Do I have to get a specific exhaust dependant on the size or kind of turbo I use. Should I plan out the turbo and the exhaust together or doesn't it really matter?

Just upgrading the turbo's wont affect your boost levels you need something to change it. It could be done with a tune or a manual/electric boost controller. Most importantly you need to tune the car for whatever setup you put on there. If you dont you will more than likely make the car slower by just putting all the bolts on's and nothing to take advantage of them. When doing a turbo upgrade you need to plan the exhaust then. A smaller turbo doesnt really need as big of exhaust as a larger one would

I owned a VR-4 for 4 years. The performance mods you should get are:

1) Intake (looks like you already have it)
2) Downpipe (ATR makes a great one)
3) Cat-back exhaust (ATR, Borla, or HKS)
4) Boost controller (HKS - can be found at: www.hksusa.com)

This will bump you from 300 to close to 400 horsepower.

Please note that VR-4s are GT cars, and will not necessarily like drag racing. The transmission in the 91-94 VR-4s is somewhat weak compared to the 95-99 transmissions. If you beat on it enough, it will break. Aside from that, good luck and have fun, they are awesome cars!
