Hi I was driving home from work one night and it felt like I hit a pot hole and I looked back and there was nothing but smooth road, wen I got home I noticed that my 1998 GMC Jimmy SLS would not go into reverse and also wasnt shifting throgh the lower gears well (rev out around 4000 and then shift to 3rd) (like no second?)
is my transmission needing to be replaced? and if so is there a cheaper way than the $2000 estimate. I have no problem with putting it in either.
Thanks for the help guys.

Sounds to me like the sunshell cracked inside. This is a fairly common problem for the 4l65 e tramsmissions. You might end up coming out of pocket quite a few dollars to fix it. You can save yourself some cash with most tranny shops by pulling it yourself. Sometimes if you have the resources it is worth it othertimes it is not. Where are you located?
