Really they could if they needed to with the supposed financial burdens they are faced with....anyway, here is an article courtesy of leftlanenews:

Should GM sell Holden?

GM’s Australian subsidiary, Holden, could be sold if financial troubles at the American auto giant continue. According to global auto expert Graeme Maxton, GM may have to take similar action with Holden as it did in disposing of shares in Isuzu, Subaru and Suzuki. “If you look at in terms of pure economics, their investment in Australia must be under question,” he said yesterday. “GM is having to sell off the family silver and close down anything that is not economic to cut costs in order to survive for the next few years,” he said. The failed Pontiac GTO was based on the Holden Monaro.

I can't believe that Holden would be a burden...or something that is not economic! Holden has been a mainstay in cars for years.

Very bad financial move on GM's part if they go thru. Holden outsells GM on both their domestic sales AND foriegn sales.

Summer is coming, automakers do shutdowns during the summer months thus lay offs and expense cutbacks.

Doesn't GM rely upon Holden for development of rear wheel drive passenger car platforms?

Honestly I think it is BS..... I doubt they would sell Holden.

Here is another article about GM and all the hype about them selling SAAB and Hummer. I'm willing to bet it is the same with Holden:

General Motors is not planning to kill its Hummer and Saab brands, according to GM’s North American marketing boss Mark LaNeve. This weekend, LaNeve said that both companies are “intrinsically woven” into GM, and cannot be dumped. The idea of killing the two brands was thrust into the public spotlight when billionaire investor and GM board member Jerry York put forward the idea. Later, GM’s Bob Lutz said Mr. York had changed his mind on the matter. However, it was later revealed that York never said this, and Mr. Lutz was forced to retract the statement. Previously, LaNeve was quoted as saying that GM could revive Saab in the same way it saved Cadillac. “Cadillac had totally lost its identity,” in 2000 he said. But today, “nobody talks about chopping Cadillac.”

I would think that GM would sell a brand like Sabb or Hummer before Holden

When was the last time anyone here bought a Holden?

It's dead weight! Cut the fat loose and stick with the core.

I think over 11,000 Americans bought Holdens in 2005.

They were disguised as Pontiac GTOs though...
