Hey I'm new to these forums my name is Kip. I found a 99' wolfsburg edition jetta and it has 154,000 on it. I am a little unsure about that , but this car has had one owner and she told me that its all highway miles. She lives in New hampshire so she must haven't been driving thorugh cities and stuff, but she told me that she had no engine or tranny probelms with it. The goods about it is that it comes with 4 snow tires and 4 all seasonal and a thule roof rack. I also checked it out on carfax for a history report and it didn't have any accidents or big repairs done. I am just wondering what any of you guys htink since your probably better at this stuff than I am...and know about volkswagons wiht high mileage....
Thanks, kip

I had a 2001 wolfsburg so it was a little different than yours that you are looking at. The older model vw's are built very well. The motors will go forever as long as simple mantience is kept on them. As long as the oil was done on a good schedule and then all the other simple things like plugs and wires and such you are golden. Ask about the timing belt and the last time it was done. If it has been awhile then take like 300-500 off the price they are asking to cover that. Other wise if the body is good and the car drives good pick it up its a good car

Not that I care too much, but is this car decent for speed? How was your 01' wolfsburg on gas? Anything else to add in? I just don't want to drive an hour away and drive the car and hear all these wierd sounds and be unsure.

You really cant measure the two cars to each other since they are different platforms and different motors.
THe mk3 such as the one you are looking at is stable at speed and fun to drive there as well. As long as the motors is running good in that car low 20's should be super easy to get for fuel milage.
Just ask about all the mantience that has and has not been done before you drive out there, even though its been a one owner if it hasnt been taken care of it isnt worth looking at. Once you talk to them about the mechanics of the car and it sounds solid then just go take it for a drive. No weird noise doesnt pull everything works then you will have a nice car.

Do you know of any easy or not so expensive mods I could do to the engine?

well since it is a natural asperated motor you will have to spend a good amount to see a good return in power.
You could do the simple intake and exhaust setup then have the computer reprogrammed. Other than that you will have to spend a good amount of money to see any more gains and then with the miles on the motor might run into reliability problems

Ya i thought that with all those miles it be too risky, but it's not as big deal to me...thanx
