I just took delivery of my new 2006 Passat. I've had two problems already !
The first problem was a failing coil pack on cylinder number 2 that's alreay beeen fixed (I'm not concerned about that, it happens) but the other has the service guys scratching their heads with no answers.

After I took delivery of my car, the next morning, I tried starting it and the starter wouldn't engage. Lights are coming on the dashboard as normal. I called service and he said "you have to press the brake" in order for it to start. I go back into the car, it starts so I laugh on how stupid I felt and drove to work.

I get in the car after work that day, press the brake, engage the starter, same thing

I try again and after several minutes, it starts.
I stop the engine, try again, it starts immediately
Even if I don't press the brake, it starts immediately.

That was on friday. Saturday and Sunday no problem.
Monday problem , Tuesday problem, Wednesday No problem...
I'm really scratching my head on what it could be.
I'm really in love with the car but I'm worried
Of course, at the dealer it works like a charm (left it overnight and all)
The vw tech line doesn't seem to know...

Anybody here heard of such a problem?
The car has been at the dealer for 2 days now with no answers.

check all fuses to rule those out just change them since they are cheap and might be causing intermitten connections but I would demand a new starter to rule that out completely. After that just take it back and threaten to get it lemoned out they will fix it quick or you will get a new car since they cant seem to fix the problem

They went over the car for the last 3 days and found one loose connection but agreed that this may not be the problem. They were not able to reproduce the problem and the computer told them nothing.

I have the car back and will keep an eye on it. That's all I can do for now.

sounds like maybe a loose park/nuetral switch.... have them check that out... if that switch isnt closed the car wont start

I actually had a similar problem with my 05 Passat. I found that when the car is off, and there is even the slightest bit of turning force on the steering wheel, it would not only lock the steering wheel, but is also prevents the car from starting. Next time you have your problem, try moving the steering wheel to see if that allows you to get going.
