According to MPH magazine, the Ranger will be discontinued before 2008. :behead:

I never really liked the Ranger, it was probably the ugliest of the small pickups. I'm glad they are doing away with it, maybe Ford will come back with something better looking and better performing this time.

I had to borrow my Dad's Ranger a few years ago when my car was out of service for a few months, and I thought it was decent enough for a truck. It even did well in the snow, something 2wd pickups are not exactly known for. It was superior to an equivalent S-10 in every way.
Does this mean Ford is giving up the compact truck segment, or just that they're going to replace it?

That's a good question, I'll see if I can find out more on that. I'm assuming they will come out with another compact pickup to replace it. It would be foolish not to.

i'm sure it'll be replaced by something a little more along the lines of the Honda Ridgeline and Dodge Rampage concept.

Maybe, just maybe they could use a Aussie Falcon Ute. Would that be a practical idea or to far fetch? They are can carry a metric ton and are availible in a 4.0 straight 6, turbo 6 or V8

I couldn't be happier!! lol, my stepdad has a ranger and I have an S10...I like everything about mine better than his. mine has more interior room, waaay more get-up-n-go, a bigger aftermarket to my knowledge and mine doesn't have issues with the electrical system lol.

I had to deal with a rare big snow here while I had that truck, and I had no trouble getting around at all. Maybe the Firestone Wilderness AT tires should get the credit? Or the fact that the bed was full of snow? Or maybe I'm just a good snow driver.

It is about time, the truck hasn't aged well and has fall'n behind everyone else. I wouldn't mind seeing them go for a truck along the size of a tacoma or frontier.

Yeah, I bet they go along the lines of a midsize for awhile.........like the Colorado. I was pissed to see the S10 go, but the Colorado has way grown on me!!!!!!!

I hope they don't go with the Colrodo's in-line 5 idea.

The Ranger is actually a nice truck, it was my first experience for a pickup, my grandfather had 2 of them (a 82? and a 87). I enjoyed it so much my first pickup was a 84 ranger.
Tho I must say the extended cab had MUCH more room for a big guy like me ;)
Tis a shame they want to drop it off their lineup... I don't suppose anyone is interested in a letter writting campaign to get them to keep it? (It worked for the stang over a decade ago.. heh)

I agree they were decent (I drove the grandparents' '93 Explorer back in the day), but yeah wasn't '94 their last update? '97? That's just too old. Were the sales slipping? They must have been...
I do wonder what it'll come back as... unibody? Bigger and in the 'almost 1/2-ton' class, like the Tacoma and Dakota? It does seem like the truck was stuck in no man's land, as the Colorado and Dakota are quite a bit bigger.

ive owned one and my friend owns one. they aint my favorite of the compact trucks but they are alright. i always managed to get by with mine. i finally sold it to buy a bigger truck. but im sure ford has some pretty good ideas for something new..or else they wouldnt be getting rid of the ranger. maybe they are making something like the chevy colorado...?..
