A V8 pick-up truck that gets 20mpg in the city is very impressive to me but I don't think 60mpg truck that has power would work.

hey maybe all these anti suv peeps will finally shut up as this one is probably more economical than theirs

I still get 18/21 in my 92 and its an SUV, my last car got 3/5. I think Ford can pull it off, And F-150 is a half ton work truck, its got to have some grunt, and, at 60 mpg, dodge and chevy/gmc truck sales will hit the floor.

Not a whole lot of info (no "nuts and bolts") I've had thoughts about using suspension movement to "pump up" an acumulater just to get you off(overcome the intitial enertia from a stand still) Ford did something like that in the mid 70s with a plate flywheel mounted behind the front seat in a Pinto.
Basically,it used the "spun-up" flywheel to get you off the line and and "re-spun" when you backed off the throttle or put on the brakes(sort of like "re-gen" in an electric rig) The wheel was mounted horizontally. The article
claimed a 35% increase in mileage( 35-37 MPG) Totally beleiveable when you think about the physics involved. I'd be willing to bet that, when you think about physics again, there were some real "surprises" in store for you when you turned a corner with the flywheel at full chat. Can you say "gyroscopic effect"?

Not with the MDS system in the new Hemi's. Its a gain of 20% in mpg.

its still not as good MPG then these guys that use the F-150, Ive always seen a strong showing of ford truck on the worksites, they know how to build a work truck.

THe MDS or DoD helps but 20% is only gonna get em between 25-30 mpg maybe upwards around 35 mpg.

Im kinda glad the hemi in the family is a 03.

Why? I wish I would have bought a 04. So I could have gotten superchargerd by kenne bell and get that screaming whine.

a 20% increase of fuel efficiency in a vehicle that gets 20mpg would bump it to 24mpg...nice but NOTHING compared to 60mpg! Besides, have you considered the potential for hydraulics like that? Torque numbers could be out of this world...and the system could find itself in heavy duty work trucks and cars within a couple years if they use the F150 to test it on the market.

The 03 Hemi doesn't have the MDS system and is thus "firing on all cylinders". That is way better in my opinion as the MDS system would wreak havoc on your engine tune should the cyliders decide to collapse under full boost. I hate the MDS system, too big-brother-like. And I get 16.3 mpg in my truck anyway.

I'm averageing 13.1 but atleast its better then a hummer :D

Because it doesnt have the MDS or the fly by wire throttle control.

My 2WD Sierra is doing better than that it's getting 19 MPG but, I do mostly highway driving. I don't think that Ford is gonna come through with this concept. If it does come out they will have to charge a large price at 40K+ because it's such a complicated system.

My truck I have bolt-on's and its supercharged running at 7-7.5psi so that affects mpg alittle but :D

Hi55us, a fully loaded F-150 isn't much cheaper than that anyways...besides what do you know about the "complexity of the system" and how that will affect cost? The fuel savings of a truck that gets a legitimate 60mpg (as opposed to the inflated fuel economy numbers of the Prius) would be more than enough to offset the cost of the hybrid system. That's roughly a 320% increase in economy with a powerplant that doesn't face the unknown future associated with non-recyclable batteries. hydraulics would be so clean....

60 MPG is 5 times more than what i got in my old 89 Maxima.
