I have a 1997 Ford Taurus, 24v DOHC Duratec engine. My car is making a rattle sound loudest, when IDLING in Reverse or Drive AND as soon as I depress the gas pedal, the issue goes right away. This usually happens when the engine is still in a cold status. For example: when I drive home which is approximately 25 miles, I can barely hear the rattle. I am hoping it is just low transmission fluid and when the fluid warms up and expands, it is quieting the tranny. Any help? :eek: :dunno: :confused:

Could be many, many things causing a rattling noise in drive/reverse. I would take it to get checked out.

One possibility is motor mounts.

found it was the heat shield banging off the exhaust
