this is just a photoshop but I think that if the car were to go into production looking like this it would sell quite well (remember this is no STi, and is not supposed to be).

LOL@ your atempt to make this car look a little less like a pile of crap.

You posted it, though. The only reason for you to post this ridiculous photoshop from nowhere, with no importance whatsoever, was to make this Subaru pile of crap look better. Like an excuse for how stank Subaru really is.
So, my point stands. STFU.

You sure have alot of disdain for Subaru. Based on absolutely nothing too. I did post it to show some of the potential that this new concept had. Apparently you aren't able to have a discussion and just want to start a flame war because what you are saying has no relevance on the thread. Im not gonna get into it with you because this is actually a thread where some interesting things could be discussed. Such as the technology that allows the car to acheive 260hp and 250 lb-ft of torque and still get 42.5mpg. Sure the car is ugly, but there's more to this concept than looks.

Sure, the potential... So, you're saying that with a complete redesign for it to look just like the hideous current lineup this pile of crap can actually look good?...
It is a very poor design, Subaru should be ashamed of it.

I agree that the car needs a complete redesign. I do find the concept extremely interesting. This is a definate case of extreme design that is too futuristic and needs to be brought back to reality. The technology thats being showcased, while in an ugly car (is that enough admitting its ugly so we can move on from it?), is extremely interesting. 2.0L Miller cycle with twin scroll turbo, with an electric motor installed on the back of the motor for the torque that Miller cycle motors normally lack. The 2 combine to give you 42.5mpg while being more powerful than the current WRX. That strange driving camera setup that I don't really understand yet is also part of the car. I think there are some really interesting things happening with this car and some of em could show up very soon in cars like the Legacy and Impreza.

I don't think it's too futuristic, Rex. It's just that Subaru is seeking a new, unique look but is doing it the wrong way. I don't know the right way, I'm no designer, I'm an attorney of law. However, I do know when something is plain ugly based on the fact that I can see right. So, it's not futuristic. Or maybe all the cars in the future will look like crap.
We can move on from that, sure, I agree with you. And moving along, the idea of a Miller cicle engine working with an electric one to provide torque is rather interesting. But we need to see how it works in the real world.

Potential? anything got potential... the japs been tuning rubbish econoboxes to beat lamborghinis on track. So potential is kinda moot point, it's all about the looks.Mitsu is heading the right direction with the evox, but this car is just beyond ugly.. so is subaru styling design. They are trying to do a bangle but end up with mouldy last week bagle.
The only decent subaru that i'll consider buying is the new legacy.
The "mecca" project

To each their own...
I don't ever recall Subaru being styling powerhouse and this car only backs that up. Still, the technology is what should be at the front as that is where the money is at. It isn't hard to tell when a concept has meaning for future product design or future technology or to just be outlandish. Take from it what you will... The car could have performance before styling in which the body ended up that way.

I wonder how the Miller cyle turbo/electric motor would work on a daily basis. I know they were mentioning the batteries were pretty trick but I can't remember much about em.
Still agree about the styling, looking forward to seeing what a possible production version might look like.

it looks more to me like it was designed for Saab to replace the 9-2X than the Subaru. Kinda goofy...don't expect crowd to like it much, i'm sure it'll change towards production time.

Subaru styling is soo lame... the only decent looking car they have is the 94-99 imprezas and thats only because they copied the 92 corolla styling. So they have to make it up on performance... but lately thats gone too since they were spanked by the evos pretty hard stock vs stock.

Hehehe...
This is for you guys to remember how sexy a car can be when not designed by Fuji Heavy Industries. This is how the next Subaru should look like. This is how every car on the road should look like.

wow, Ive never been of fan of that one.
ajmalzx why did you post 2 more pictures of a corrola and impreza where the cars looked nothing alike? Imprezas were never good looking cars, except to the few fans. But I don't buy my car for its looks, obviously, if you do, thats not a problem to me.

OMG and I thought you know everything about subaru. Dont you know that the GC impreza when it 1st came out was heavily critisize for looking too much like the corolla? It was once called the Subaru Corolla. If you think it didnt look nothing alike, you should have your eyes checked. Look at the headlights, the front turn lights, the grill, the side mirrors, bodyline/contour and even the rear lights cluster looks similar. Over the years subaru made the design more muscular and finally manage to distingushed itself from the corolla.
I buy car on how they look as one of the top 2 prority. You want to drive a datsun sunny lookalike everyday? Same reason why the GTR were a commercial failure. If i'm paying top money for it, it better look like a million buck car. I dont want ferrari perofrmance with subaru blandness. I dont however say that they are a bad manufacturer or suggest they made bad cars, just bland sometime. Oh on a more interesting note, I just manage to sell the new facelifted impreza to my mate after convincing him not to buy an evo 9. (yes i'm a salesman and subaru give lousy sales comission).

maybe the 93 Impreza Turbo looked like a Corrolla, but since that car wasn't sold in the US I wouldn't have much knowledge on it. Except my favorite Impreza the 22B I really don't know much about non-USDM Subaru's.
I still think they don't look alike, maybe the shape of the lights and the grille, but the rest of the body is different. Plus, alot of japanese cheapo sedans from that time frame blended together. They all had bland styling, but compared to nowadays, I would rather have the bland but slightly muscular looks of those cars (Lancer Evo, Impreza STi, Skyline GTR), when compared to the new look cars of today. Cars like the Evo X, B5, new Civic, and others are just too ugly for me to think they look cool. The current Evo, while not something that I would want to buy, is at least not offensive, where I look at the concept and wonder what they were thinking. This is fairly common today, especially among sports cars. Evo, STi, 350Z, RX-8, Corvette, Viper SRT-10...all these cars are less desireable to me than their precursors.
Regardless, my interest in this new Subaru has nothing to do with its looks, but all based on its technology (40+ mpg with 260hp catches me somewhere inside). I wonder, does anyone on this board have experience with Miller cycle engines? I know Mazda used em a while back, just wondering if anyone on these boards has ever owned a Miller cycle.
