Today, Lexus will unveil the next-generation IS sedan, complete with its very first diesel engine. Until now, in Europe's highly competitive business segment a manufacturer has to offer a diesel variant, so the aluminum common-rail 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel is of great importance for Lexus and its efforts on the Continent. With a power output of 177 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, the Lexus IS diesel will offer the highest performance in its class.

The IS will also be available with a 204-hp V-6 gas engine with direct injection. Both engines will be teamed to a six-speed gearbox, whereas the V-6 will also be offered with a sequential six-speed automatic transmission.
The new Lexus IS is the second model with the so-called L-Finesse design. The car will be equipped with PCS (Pre-Crash Safety System), ACC active cruise control, intelligent active cornering lights, ten airbags including knee airbags, and the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management stability system. The 2006 IS will hit the markets by the end of this year.

Well at least it looks good.

Dear Leader

it looks like a corolla..

why did they move the rice from the rear to the front? those headlights are nasty, worse than the taillights on the old car

its got the lines from the new GS.. which i saw last year at NYAS.. ugly as shit.. that rear end just screams corolla

Lol, car looks non-descript. Could be a Mazda, or a Focus...old one looked way better, even with those garish rear-lights.

Yea, I agree with that at least as far as Mazda.

LOL, the old one looked horrible and was horrible, except in Europe where you got the IS200.

This new direction is way better than the old shit. Not award winning shit, but I'd actually buy one now.

Any word on how competitive the car will be priced ?

I was being sarcastic about the looks. However, they'll prolly grow on me (like a Z4).

Well, the Z4 is a daring design, something you have to get used to. This car is just plain boring IMHO...

Dear Leader

lol, I have the balls to admit anything of the sort. I truly like it.

LOL@how you know the Audi engine in the RS4 is well above that of the M5.

OWNED!!!!

z4 is not really a car that grows on you. You may find one example that makes you change your mind but that car is so love/hate.

I dunno man..my storied hate for BMW is well documented..hell, I picked a Viggen over one for christ's sakes...when the Z8 came out, I hated that (and still do- what a waste of $$)...same with the Z4..but seeing it up close and in those little films really changed my mind. I love the front btw...the lines are just awesome, and Bangle's design, along with that of the 5, should be commended. Now the Lexus on the other hand.

And the RS4's new powerplant>anything.

IS? Boring.

The Z8 is trully an instant classic, I love it. I drove one once too, when they were setting up the Bimmer dealership in Niteroi. They brought one, electric blue... I'll never forget that car.

First, the GS looks like a Maxima and now this shit looks like an Altima.

At least copy Infiniti if you're going to bother.
