Subaru is planning on moving up a notch for the 2006 model year with the introduction of its seven-passenger upscale wagon. Updated, but based on the WX-01 Concept from the Tokyo Motor Show, this vehicle will be the first in the lineup to carry Subaru's new signature styling grille, as first seen on the B9SC Roadster Concept.

Developed under the codenames SG/X and 00X, the premium wagon has already hit the consumer clinics in southern California and has received positive feedback. Several Subaru owners commented that the new wagon had the look and feel of a Lexus, but others remarked on the European influences.

Subaru insides have commented about the vehicle's very versatile and highly flexible interior, and it's believed that the second and third rows of seats will fold flat to accommodate cargo, as well as flexible seating configurations.

The SG/X will be built in Lafayette, Ind., and should start running off the assembly line in just a year from now. Sources tell us the SG/X will measure in at about 195 inches overall, with a 108-inch wheelbase. Power is expected to come from Subaru's 3.0-liter H6 boxer engine, and, of course, it will be all-wheel drive.

The new SG/X will likely start in the low-to-mid $30,000 range with an estimated production of up to 40,000 units annually.

And although there is nothing confirmed, there are STRONG rumors that General Motors may want a piece of the action. Quite possibly this might spawn a new luxury wagon for the automaker, and it just may carry the Buick nameplate - and possibly Saab as well.

I'll let you know when i first see one on the road...Subaru road-tests the cars being built in Lafayette around here fairly often. they like using I-65 between Indy and Lafayette.

Pictures look horrible though

Get some spy shots and mark them with an ECF so we can send them throughout the net and get some new members :)

Really, explicate the process.

I was 6 years back in Death Valley, I met a group of heavily disguised Mercedes' cars, including the C-class. Shot pics, drivers got all pissed, send the pics to a major dutch magazine. The C-class would be on the market a full 2 years later. Oh, and I shot the first available pics of a fully uncamouflagued Kia Sephia, surprisingly that was appreciated as well. I got 200-250 bucks in total, and my pics were featured in that mag 3 or 4 times. A few places in the world, inlcuding Death Valley, are known for heavy testing of cars. Magazines are willing to pay for the latest spy pics, that are exclusive for them. Unlike the Lehmann pics that show up in every other magazine...

LOL, actually I was going to mention Death Valley as I've been in the area and seen many test vehicles. Also many of them are for the LA area so they have to take the heavily travelled route between LA and Vegas, but I'm assuming they do it at night. Actually, in SB I saw a lot of test vehicles, especially the 5 and 7 about 18 months before they were revealed to the public. Their camo was pretty impressive, not an inch wasn't covered by this full body vinyl cover. I also the Viper pre-production and RR came through with a fleet of phantoms as the scenery is really good.

I've seen both the 7 and the 5 series near where I live in LA. I'm assuming they're driving them through the Angeles Crest highway, because who knows why else they'd be in this section of the Valley. Never realized you could actually make money off of them, or I'd have turned around and gotten my camera.

LOL@seeing the 7 series test mule parked in the parking lot of Jack in the Crack.

It would have, but it would have been a pain setting up the logistics and time consuming, which I don't have time for right now.
