The first pictures of Mitsubishi's sporty Eclipse, code name PS24S, show a much larger coupe with lots of Mitsubishi styling cues.
Likely based on the Galant platform, the next Eclipse will arrive late in the 2005 model year, or possibly for 2006. The Galant, the Eclipse, and the Endeavor crossover ute are based on Mitsu's "Project America" platform; the Galant and Endeavor are built at the Mitsubishi facility in Normal, Ill., where the Eclipse will be assembled as well.

Damn, they got that car heavily covered up. Doesn't look too bad from as far as I can tell, as far as half covered cars go.

Mitsu's styling as of late has be ass... I have little hope for this thing.

I was wondering the same thing myself. It's either some type of hood scoop thing, or they just used some type of "filler" to confuse people what the car's gonna look like.

If this thing is even halfway decent I'm buying one on principle. The first car I ever bought was a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. I love the things. I just did a nut and bolt restoration on mine and sent it to Korea. I bought another one that I keep in Boston and I'm thinking of getting another one, if I find one in good shape, for foul weather driving and some track use. Right now the Corvette follows me around wherever I travel, but I really miss my GSX.

In that case, it's gone quite fast in those 4 years...

Yea..from the basic shape I think its pretty bad. I like the Gen 2's and Gen 1's..the Gen 3 has been horrifiyingly ugly.

So in four years you went from a GSX to a Murcy... impressive.

I could have always bought Lamborghinis and such but I had to set up other stuff first. Real estate, strong portfolio, trust fund for my future children, retirement, etc. I already had 6 big companies (which in turn run around 5 or 10 small companies each) and over 10 houses around the US, Tokyo, and Seoul by the time I bought my Murcielago.
Throughout college I drove a Toyota Previa van. When my parents asked me what kind of car I wanted I asked for something that fit a lot of people :). That thing was cool. Then they got me an Acura 3.0 CL for reliable transport.
When I finally went out to buy my own car my dad wanted me to follow his footsteps and buy a Bentley. I didn't want one because my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) had a new Bentley Azure. When I started with the GSX I bought it cash. I had just sold a small business management business for a few mm and picked this car because of the smile it put on my face. The GSX doesn't get enough credit. Well, except from ricers, which isn't exactly something that has me too thrilled. I think I probably had the only fully stock GSX in all of California when I had it there :). I liked it better than the much heavier 3000 GT VR-4 which was the other car I considered. The GSX model came fully optioned from the factory, which I liked. The only additional option, was a 10 disc CD changer with Infinity sound system. I never listen to it, but just got it because it was so cheap. Sound quality is good for a stock system but obviously crap compared to the aftermarket stuff.
The current generation Eclipse is an insult. Just pathetic in the way it looks and drives. Makes me sad. I think the line is butchered for good, but would love to see it make a comeback in it's new guise. I hope for decent looks and good performance. I much prefer the 4 cylinder turbos to the 6 cylinder piece of crap in there right now.
Cheers

I've never been a true true fan of Eclipses...FWD bugs the hell out of me..but the AWD ones and the first gen DSM's are hot. And im sure mecca's DSM is quite the beast.

LOL I gotta agree with you on FWD. I never drove an AWD vehicle, but I'd rather have RWD than FWD. It's literally annoying the way the FWD cars handle.

but there are some great front drivers tho:
Magna VRX/Ralliart
Integra type R
and some models of alfa romeos, saabs, etc.

LOL, more than 80% of the time an FWD car is just as good as RWD. Torque steer only really comes with underengineered cars like the Saab 9-3 Viggen a. s.

Actually, I'm not. For normal road use FWD is more than good enough. I don't know how many FWD cars you have driven, but I've driven more than enough to come to that conclusion.
Sure, RWD is way more entertaining, and better for track use and such, but for normal everyday driving it's not so extremely much better than FWD, as some of you claim.
And torque steer indeed only comes with underengineered cars. Try driving a Alfa Romeo 156 GTA...no problem, with 250hp on the front wheels.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. When I bought my dad's Lumina, if I gunned it while I was turning, that thing would oversteer so fast it was irritating. That was the one and only FWD car I had and it annoyed the hell out of me, both how it drove and the cost of labor of replacing shit.
Dylan
12-21-2003, 09:35 AM
LOL..I never said it was better for everyday usage. But for a sports car or sports application, I dont think FWD have many advantages.

Please show me where you made the nuance between everyday use and sports application...
FWD doesn't equal torque steer. And of course RWD is better in sports application, but FWD is safe and cheaper, and good enough for most people for everyday use.

LOL@smashing the pedal in the middle of turning....LOL@you thinking you get oversteer then...

I didn't have to make a nuance..I don't think anyone really cares about everyday driving with a sports car..or what is dubbed a "sports car".
FWD+ high power= torque steer in most scenarios..and by high power I mean 300+.

Maybe I should've said torque steer. Even if I mashed it on my 1990 Camaro during a turn, that never happened. I also just don't care for the way the FWD cars handle.
Dylan
12-22-2003, 07:45 PM
Torquesteer..doesn't it go up as power is increased? Thus modding a FWD car (ex an eclipse) to 300HP would give it some torquesteer, while you wouldn't have that problem with a RWD car. Not FWD in general..but in sports applications.
muti007
12-23-2003, 01:00 AM
torquesteer is a part of life for fwd cars with high hp. period. true some cars are better at coping with it then others, no question, but it cant be alleviated when your steering wheels are the same as the driven wheels. for performance cars, which i thought we were talking about, rear wheel drive is just always superior to fwd. noone said fwd drive cars are undriveable, just not preferred for high performance driving. and this isnt even getting into oversteer vs understeer, load transfer etc.

You'd get understeer, not oversteer. And lol@how you base your opinion on a Lumina...maybe the crappiest of all.
And for the last time, the ****ing discussion was not about FWD in sports applications. We were talking about a ****ing Eclipse here...because Dylan has a weird way of discussing things doesn't mean the whole topic changes in 1 post :o
You must be a ****ing moron is you built a 400hp FWD car, and yes, torque steer is then almost inevitable..
Oh, and about sportsapplications, isn't Cheater's track Golf FWD ?
Stickanddice
12-23-2003, 03:29 AM
What is torque steer and how do you know when it happens?
Torque steer is when the power put to the wheels steers the car in a given direction. Noticed when starting from a stop. When you accelerate from a stop you will notice the wheel wanting to turn on it's own, that's when you know it happened.
I don't personally care for FWD cars but have seen some pretty impressive track cars with FWD. Torque steer will not affect a track car adversely other than the standing start. My Mitsubishi was the AWD version. I test drove the GS-T (FWD) and didn't like the drive as much.
Cheers

I didn't do any modifications to that car, it was just to hold me over, and I didn't feel like taking out a huge loan. And it was a crappy car, I hated it. Well, it was better than the Taurus, but not by much.

A Taurus is not a performance car by any stretch of the imagination..
Tom J.
12-23-2003, 08:07 PM
Well, my point is the car wasn't great by any means, but it did help me to save my money for the down payment for the TransAm. Sure, I could've bought one a lot sooner, but I didn't feel like shelling out $500+ a month for a car payment plus insurance.

Still, get into info about oversteer/understeer...you look dumb right now...

Dude, I bought that car from my dad cause I know I would've gotten a totally better deal than anything I could've gotten from a used car dealer.
Okay, maybe I don't know a whole lot about understeer and oversteer cause I don't do a lot of reading on it. lol I guess I should. All I do know is that Lumina would wanna snap into the turn if I gave just a bit too much gas. With all the other cars I had being RWD, sometimes I'd forget about how the FWD cars handle. Or at least the one I had.
