My 1995 Ford Aspire suddenly would no longer start the other morning. It doesn't turn over, but only makes a faint click that doesn't sound like it's coming from the solenoid. The battery is new and fully charged. Power comes on when the key is in the ON position. The starter has been tested. The car starts when a screwdriver is crossed along the solenoid terminals, but no power goes to the solenoid when the key is turned.
Help! What's going on, and what can I do about it?

You say it will start when you jump the solenoid, but there is no power to the solenoid. The solenoid has to have power if you can jump it. I would think it could be a bad solenoid or a fusible link for the power to the ignition posts. You need to get a DVOM & check power at the solenoid. Then have someone try to turn the car over & check the voltage at the small post.

Thanks... I wasn't clear. I've had the starter and solenoid tested by a mechanic - they seem OK. The voltage doesn't seem to be going to the solenoid from the ignition when I turn the key (and I tested to make sure the ignition switch is OK). Would this be a fusible link problem? Is there a starter relay that would cause this?
