In all too familiar fashion, Audi achieve their total domination for the 3rd year in a row, with the same team of drivers. In the end, the winning no.1 Audi racks up 375 laps in total, not quite an all time record, but is the longest distance in the last 13 years at 5119km. It spent 34 mins in total in the pit, a 11 mins advantage over the next non-Audi prototype, the Bentley. Which is 3 laps gained in the pit time alone.
In similar fashion as the Audi, Corvette team got their 2nd 1-2 in the 3 years at Le Mans. The winning number 63 car ran flawlessly to finish 11th overall. Total distance of 334 laps. The outright pace was indeed slower than the Prodrive Ferrari 550GTO, but the 550 loses it's motor in flame during the night hours and practically handed the win to the Corvette Team.
The 675 Class winner was decided at the last hour of the race when the leading WR Peugeot suffer 2 suspension failure which see it loses it's 5 laps advantage over the Del Bello Reynard and limp home to finish 2nd in class. 20th overall. The 675 winner, the Del Bello Reynard was 19th overall. The much hyped MG Lola domination never materialized as all 3 MGs(2 works, 1 privateer) all hit trouble during the night hours and retired.
The GT class was won by American Kevin Buckler's Racer's Group Porsche 911 GT3-RS, whose car started from pole battled with Freisinger Motorsport Porsche throughout the race to finally win it by about 2 minute after the entire 24 hour.

I'm content. It was a good race from what I watched. I was happy about the pace of the Ferrari, I knew it there was very little chance of it makign it to the end. Hopefully this performance will spark interest by Ferrari and help develop the 550GT along with Prodrive. Congrats to Audi, they did their homework.

Yeah, I was also suprised by the Ferrari. Everything else was fairly forseeable.

The Ferrari team expected the gearbox to go and they knew that their chanses of making it was fairly slim. I can't say I saw it as a surprise.

The Prodrive built/prep Ferrari 550 GTO(actually 550 is just in name, the car is 6 liter) led the GTS class race til the 12 hours mark. Driven by Ricard Rydell, Alain Menu, and Tomas Enge, they had build up a solid 2 lap lead over the no. 63 Corvette. Then the car had oil pressure problem then engine blew and caught fire in the Porsche Curves. Retired.
Bentley was reliable and running like clockwork, just not fast enough with their 2 inch narrower rear tire(LM-GTP regulation). 13 laps down from the winning Audi.

and y'all argue that bmw is better than audi...ahahahah hehe...j/k
dayum, i wonder how much my 1/18 scale model of the original R8, signed by Biela, Pirro, McNish, and umm...damn, cant remember the 4th guy who helped audi win in 2000....
i have it sitting on a shelf in my room...it, of course, will NEVER be sold...but damn, to have lived through the moment of meeting the 4 drivers who won lemans, and had them sign my model of the car (albeit the car from the previous year)....it is something i will never forget. and they were all really cool. mcnish and pirro were really fun to talk to...they were almost as excited to meet and talk to my driver and i as we were to meet them. Biela just couldnt really speak english...
I wonder how many other people in the world have this item.... :)

Planning to do just that this summer at Mosport.....I believe the fourth guy was Tom Kristensen.
Pirro, Kristensen and Biela are the world's only triple teammate winner ever at Le Mans....
McNish never won Le Mans with Audi, he did it in a Porsche 911 GT1 98. But he did win the ALMS driver's championship in 2000...

hehe, **** you dude. at the time, maisto was the only one making a model of the car. The quality is actually pretty good...the detail work is nice, and while its nowhere near an autoart or tamiya car, its not like i had many other options.....
I actually dont know if any other manuffacturers produced a 1:18 model of this particular car....i know that there are a few 1:24 and 1:43 floating around.....
but, damnit, i want people to be in awe of this thing i have...argh! hehehehe ;)

Maisto make damn good models. They're no Franklin Mint but they're good quality and detailed. My local barber shop has a few great maisto race car models.

i love watching the details on the brake disc.... when i look at minichamps mint or autoart models, i see details down to the last screw. and thats what i like. i hate looking at models that only looks beautiful on the outside but crappy on the inside....
