Yo, the first event of the season was a few days ago (May 1st), so I invited Mike (hondamatic) out to watch...maybe even get a ride in my car. But of course he misunderstood that and figured I'll let him drive my car :(. Now, I'm a decent person, so I figured what the hell, the guy's loaded ( :) ), he'll pay for any damages ( :D ), plus I trust he's a good driver ( lol ). So there we were, two warriers, sharing the one horse, going into the unwinnable battle against the racing Gods.

To make the story short(er), the 7 behaved great, slight understeer at one or two places (I blame the winter tires) and we had to push it between runs (heh, made me feel like I own a race car), but it felt good overall. The course needed a downshit into first for a hairpin corner, so everybody got to show off their hill-and-toe skills (grrrrrrrind) and I suprisingly had no trouble with the tranny.

The course was a lot of fun. It was in the oval so there was a place where we went pretty much flat out around one of the banked turns...got some scary speed there, going into a slalom. Fun. The only strange part was the last corner going into the stop box, as there were at least half a dozen spins there when people tried to brake through the corner into the box. Oh well, we survived.

75 people showed up to race (and more to watch), which makes the new club record. Looks like it's gonna be a busy season. But, there were a shitload of really cool cars...two grand sport C4s (or at least we thought they were), V8 FC, raced-out AE86, supercharged Mustangs, turbo Dodges, ZC 3rd gen Civic (3rd, right Mike?), lots of others. Plus they were owned by the coolest bunch of people ever.

And now for the fun part, results. They only posted the fastest run, so here it is:
Persid - 56.398
Hondamatic - 64.701

LOL, come on Mike, I knew you were taking it easy, but 8 seconds??? I almost feel embarresed for letting you ride with me home :)

I think I did fine as I have next to no experience. There was at least another second in the car, but maybe next time. I got approx. 90 points out of a 100 counting towards the club championship (rookie champ. in my case), so if I smarten up I might even end up with a set of free R-rated tires.

Anyways, pics follow (thanks Mike for the camera).

I wish I had the time to do stuff like that:( Well, since I ditched the turbo I can start building my car up for Auto-X and road courses.

Make time man :)

L, I'm not sure if you have to register. It's free, so don't be afraid to do it. Know any better pic hosting sites?

If Persid wasn't so ugly I would be enjoying this thread.:D jk of course. Keep up the good work and get into club racing.

8 seconds?:D

ps, car people are the best, one of the reasons I'm so into the automotive scene.

That's not for weight reduction. Those are Homer Simpson speed holes. :D

Now that I've actually found this thread, I'd like to say that, in my defence, this was the second occasion on which I'd taken the mighty rex's wheel... and that my driving style in more anarchistic than smooth :)

That said, though, I do owe Persid a thank you, perhaps even a few beer, for letting me try the war horse out...

PS: The Civic's a 4th gen. :)

bigger rims equal lower profile tyres, lower profile tyres means better handling, and better handling means better time right?

and if you live here, thats the sort of helmet that you would'nt want to wear..... trust me. hell i can have a pinnk helmet too, just spray it pink. colour is not the main factor, safety is. why dont you get a full-face? it offers better protection and not to mention you wont have a mouth full of smashed teeth if you bang you face on the steering wheel. not to mention it' looks a lot better/cooler.

You could get lower profile tire for smaller rim as well....most of the autocross guy does that more than using a bigger rim.....

This Civic is running a set of 15 I think....

It's called money my dear boy...like Mike, I'm a poor college student who can hardly afford the insurance and fuel on my car. I don't have $500 to waste on a helmet when a $150 one is perfectly adequate for what I do (AutoX only ATM). When I start doing some more serious stuff, I'll buy a more serious helmet.

And bigger rims = $2000+. I payed that much for my car. The rims on there are 14"s, i'm looking for a used set of 15s so I can put 205/50/15s on them. I don't need any lower than that (low pro. tires + busted suspension + race seat = problems for persid :) ). My car only has some 150-170hp...do you really think putting a set of 17s will do me any good? :)

holy ****, dont tell me that helmet cost 150? coz over here a NoLan full face helmet cost just a little over $175. and a helmet like that (yours) will only cost like $25 even less and it came with a windshield.... and yes it's been approved by malaysian equivelant to TUV.

What the hell is TUV? :)

My helmet is SNELL 2000 approved...it cost $150cdn ($100US), the cheapest (worse than mine) closed face ones are $350cdn+.

McLarenFan

Why the **** do you need a closed-face helmet when you're racing in a car with the windows closed??? :D

And weight is the enemy when it comes to wheels. Short of OZ Superleggeras or Volks, most 17"ers are heavy. There's nothing wrong with 50-series tires anyway...
