Hey guys,
Why are they so appealing to the eye? Are they good cars? They look fast........are they?
Car Accident update:
The people who hit us decided that it was our fault filed against us and the whole case is now being take to court. They claimed injuries, and we're lucky to be alive, Life's a bitch isn't she? Damn. Anywho, I'm not all bashed around looking which is good.
Anyone know what the most popular car in the US is?

Well looks are subjective, but the newest generation Eclipse is a rather eye-catching design, good or bad. It received a minor freshening this model year too.
Don't really have much experience with the Eclipse, though I beleive GreatWhiteShark had/has a new Eclipse, he can likely offer first hand info.

Highest selling passenger car in US this past year was the Accord, with the Camry close behind. Highest selling vehicle overall was the Ford F-150 truck.

You're talking about the last generation Eclipse, right? Becuase the new one is beyond butt ugly and if you find it appealing I would have to say you are not welcome on the board. Personal opinion be damned!

I am a big fan of the 2nd gen. Eclipse Spyder. My one friend used to have one. It was pimp shit. I loved that car. He left me drive it once, which was a big suprise because he never lets anyone drive his cars..
anyways, the newer spyders I'm not a big fan of the styling, but i would ROCK one if it was givin 2 me :D

Why is it appealing!!!
O let me count the ways.
Maybe because it is such a sexy car. Because everybody you meet loves the way it looks aside from the few 2G holdouts who think that an improved car is bad.
I have not met a person who would not be willing to take the car. Like playboy said, you can rock one if you got the money to spend. They got some super nice stuff for the car.
I will give Mitsubishi credit. They do know how to make very nice looking cars. There is not a day that goes by without a smile to my face when I see the car. It is just very curvy.
They do look fast and they are pretty fast for a FWD car. 0-60 for the spyder is 6.8 with the new 210hp engine and dropping of the torque curve. The owner could care less if the RSX is faster. It is not better looking. And that may be subjective, but subjective apparently makes it the top selling sports car, neck and neck with the Almighty Mustang.
FWD means insurance is tons less than the mustang gt. I mean 1/3 less at least. Which here in NY and NJ with high premiums is a lot of money.
Very classy compared to competition. . Its a grown up car that is sophisticated. Mustang is raunchier (my taste). Eclipse is sinewy silky smooth.
Some will bitch and moan about the lack of a turbo (BTW they have a supercharger for the V6 which puts out over 300 + hp reliably). Those people dont really know anything about a car companies goal which is to sell a car. (same people that think fbodys getting 20hp boost would make a damn difference in its demise, it didnt)
I could care less about those people. Why?? Because they are worthless. The GSX and GST represented less than 10 percent of total eclipse sales. The GT eclipse now represents 60% of sales. So those who bitched, buy the car first before talking.
Thats just for starters. I got to go to bed

"pimp shit" you have no idea what "pimp shit" is, cause it aint an eclipse.
I for one would not take the car, convertable or no convertable. I happen to like the RSX much more.
Greatwhite, what are the overall production percentages for the GT vs the GSX and GST, if they favor the GT, then more people will be able to buy the GT, thus giving it a higher percentage.

O I have no idea. Thanks for explaining to me.
Let me guess chrome rims is pimping right?

Well, the reason why they didnt produce more GSX or GST is because they only sold between 10-15% while more people are willing to pay for the GT which makes them produce more. Its not like the GST or GSX are Z8's with a couple hundred a year made.
Let me get C&D to see what they said exactly about it.
" As it is, only 15 percent of Eclipse buyers sprang for the turbo last year, and only a third of those turbo cars were four-wheel-driven."
So they really werent selling well.
I see what you mean if only 15 GSt/GSX were made out of 100 then they would be selling every one. But that wasnt the case.

I'd take a GSX over all the cars in the current class, without much thought.

Wow, Guess I caused some controversy hm?
Personally I really love the '97......there's one for sale that I've been eyeing....Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous....
I have to know, is a '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder conv. worth $14,500? I mean, for a 5 yr old car that seems a bit much, although I don't know anything about the condition......but still....
However, I may seem very ignorant to all of you (which I assure you I most likely am). I'm just another uninformed female seeking some knowledge about cars. I'm more than willing to take constructive criticism, and good advice......just be forewarned, car lingo is not something I understand well.
I hope you're willing to educate me somewhat.
Thanks,
~Ashley~

I personally like the way that the 2nd gen DSMs looked like. Esp with some bigger rims the car looks very sweet. Plus the GSX is one of the more moddable imports out there. The main thing that kept me from getting one when I was shopping for a car was that I heard of many reliability problems.

Yes, that car is brutally ugly, especially in that electric (aka blind the shit out of someone with full fledged cataracts) red.
I saw a GSX a couple days ago Mecca, COOL! Anyway, I would even hesitate for a second in the choice between new and old, the new generation is such a pathetic attempt at a car.

I haven't heard of so many reliability problems as much as when the car starts to get on in milage and years, the tightness of the car just seems to let loose. Shit starts to rattle and vibrate. Why? What reliability problems did you hear about?

I don't even bother looking at an Eclipse, they new ones are pretty ugly. I'd take a GST though that's pretty tight, I'd look at one 2 twice if it passed me by. How much power did the Turbo Eclipses make in stock form?
GreatWhiteShark
04-20-2002, 05:43 PM
The GST makes 210bhp. Same amount as the new eclipse and does 0-60 in 6.7 vs 6.8 for the new one.
The GSX obviously is a better launcher at 0-60 of around 6.4.
I am wondering why you would look twice at a GST when it is identically looked to the GS save a different spoiler? Eclipses are that special in your area?? The GST is also FWD
Some problems I recall:
- famous clutch death. mitsubishi makes clutches that cant handle upgrade in power and many are screwed up at like 30,000 miles in the stock cars. SLipping clutch... I know the VR4 had major problems with that.
-electrical problems. self explanatory but eclipse had a high amount.
-Its a nice looking car but personally I wouldnt buy a car with such low end quality. I think a 3000GT is much more attractive.
Rattles are inevitable with low end sports cars.

I thought the GST was RWD? ANd I heard the GSX was much quicker than just 6.4sec from 0-60....

isn't it that the GST is turbo FWD and GSX is twin turbo four wheel drive?

They have the same engine so they're both single turbo, but yes the GST is FWD and the GSX is AWD. Thats why you see so many more people dragging out their GSX and not the GSTs...

I don't think it was the Eclipse. What model was it that was supposed to be AWD and twin turbo?

They're actually pretty rare. Just about as rare as Supra TTs and NSXs. I barely ever see them around here.

Woooooooah...
I'm not sure about that...
There seem to be a whole lot more VR-4s than there are Supras and NSXs. I'm going to say the Supra and NSX are about equal...

I'd have to agree with Rebecca, I see a ton more VR-4s than NSXs or Supras.

If it's rare, could it be possible that was a ricer car??? It said VR4 on the bumper.

Good point gimpyben, I can't even remember the last time I've seen a Supra or NSX. It's been at least a good two years or so, especially for the NSX. I think I saw one like 3 years ago.

I dunno, it really depends on which areas u live in.......
Up here in NorCal bay areaish....... Frisco, Fremont, San Jose, Milpitas, there are quite a few MKIVTTs and NSXs........ Quite a few BPUed MKIVTTs in Frisco especially, like 6-8........ Silver 360Ms are more common than Supras/NSX in Frisco from what I've noticed....... And in the Fremont/Milpitas area there are several MKIV/TT running around as daily drivers..........
But I'm sure u SoCal peeps get more attention than we do tho........

Good point, dude. Like if I were to zip down to Highland Park, I would see tons of exotics. a lot more than Lake Bluff and Lake Forest, and even those two towns are wealthy areas. I might see a lot more of those NSX's if I went to the Highland Park area and looked around. Stuck up area too, not to mention the racist ass cops.

I honestly see as many VR-4s as those other two cars around here. True there are loads of SLs and Base 3000gts but VR4s are pretty damn rare. I see a few NSXs a week and even more Supra TTs.
