Compare to what he was driving in the 70s and 80s, today's F1 car are much much easier to drive.......

are you sure? those cars are a lot slower....

But they also have a lot less grip, both aerodynamically and mechanically....we are talking about F1 cars that'll fly over bumps on the N-Ring, and then they also have conventional gearshift with clutch to deal with....

And they are not that much slower....

i get your point....
driving a car in the 40s is a lot harder than driving 90's car. but that doesnt mean 40's driver are better driver than 90s driver...

That's true.....as today's driver need to be a lot fitter to deal with the cornering force, simplifying some driving task is sensible.....

Lauda is quite special though, he has success in the 70s with aerodynamic starts to take off, and has success in 80s when Ground Effect is in full swing and Turbo is the name of the game.......and to do that after that horrific accident he has in 76 at the Nurburgring is truly amazing(6 weeks after a near death accident, he returned to racing....)...
