My dad is looking for a cool fun car for his next one- but it has to be a front wheel drive, automatic car. It seems like this car is perfect... Any experiences/opinions?

anything else that competes with it?

330 coupe competes with it.

The Acura is a cool car though. Even though its automatic, it's apparently still lots of fun to drive, and it doesn't really behave like a FWDriver too. It's cheap too (alot cheaper than the 330 or Audi A4 or IS300 or whatever else), and it has more standard options (i.e: nifty LCD GPS navigation system).

For the money you'd have a lot of trouble finding a better coupe. I've also heard that a 6-sp manual could be available for 2002 on the Type S...though maybe that was incorrect. think i read it in one of the mags. Performance, reliability, build quality, amenities, handling, comfort.... Don't know that you can go wrong. Go for the Gold color :) less common.

Other options would include the Saab 9-3, Volvo C70, and Audi TT Coupe...at least to fit your FWD/Automatic necessities. The Audi A4 coupe is probably a year off at least. The Volvo would probably be quite a bit more expensive, and the TT is a lot smaller...though available with AWD. The Saab, i like -- but it's getting quite old and is due for replacement soon (2003 maybe? 2004?).

Yeah, the Acura is your best option. Very nice car.

i know this probably wont fly with most of you guys but what about Grand Prix GTP/GTX/Bonneville SSEi/Regal GS/Park Avenue Ultra. CL t-s is a tight ass car my friend has one...great quality and decently quick, smooth ride..just nice all around, great interior.

With auto and fwd, the Cl seems like the best and only option.
Plus for a damn good car already its got so many cool little gadgets. :D

I'd say your dad show definitly take one for a test drive. Loaded to the gills with everything, Sportmatic transmission and of course that 260hp 6. I don't think he'll be dissappointed. Looks great in silver.

Does it has to be a coupe? Nissan is making a lot of cool high power sedan lately, from the cheaper end the 240bhp Altima to something like a Infinity I35 which has 260(or something like that bhp).

My father told me we would go and throw around a CL-S in a couple days- take a trip to the dealer.

I am psyched.

I've driven the TL-S. It's a tight car with pretty damn good speed and nice steering feel. It pulls pretty hard. IMO it has one of the best interiors if not the best in it's class. The engine is nice and smooth too, plenty of torque for a car like the TL-S. I think the best colors are black, blue, and white, this is for the TL-S not the CL-S. Also Lord Cool guy had a good point the Grand Prix GTP is a great car. I've driven that one too. It can haul some ass as well. The passing power on that car is really good. But it's main thing is it's size. You've got lots of space everywhere. I mean everywhere you won't feel cramped at all. And the ride is really smooth. THe Acura might have a harder ride, but I think it handles better. Also the new Mxima with 260hp, Altima (not a fan of the altima, ugly as a mofo), and the Lincoln LS are nice. Well the LS is a RWD so I don't whether you want that. The bimmers are always good in that field as well. But seriously if it were up to me I'd havea hard time choosing between the TL-S and the Grand Prix GTP. The grand prix GTP would be more modable. The TL-S has some nice body kits available for it. The Maxima is too played out, especially in New York. I see that car on every blck, corner, street, or whatever. A lot of teenageers drive around in it too. For the love of christ please don't get the new ES300 or the old one for that matter.

BTW, we would lease the car- therefore we couldnt' mod it.

if you got one of those gm's then you can change out the pulley for a few more pounds boost and a lot more hp, and do nothing else :)

The GTP is in a completely different class...and doesn't compete with the Acura on any level besides straight-line performance and price. it only wins in price because it's a cheap car. You get what you pay for, though...and the Acura is a better car in almost all respects, not the least of which is image. Anyone has to admit that Pontiac's image is far from great (Aztec anyone? I personally, dont' even want people to associate what I drive with that POS).

No competition.

WEll I don't know what kind of image you have driving around in an entry luxo/family sedan starting at 30k. I almost never care about image. The GTP tops out 29k I believe and the TL-S is 33-34k. Yes I believe teh TL-S is worth every penny, it's a damn good car, but you can't deny Pontiac of the GTP. There is no relation to the Astek with the GTP. THe GTP is actually a successful car with great looks. Like I said the leather and interior will be nicer on the TL-S but as for plain luxury and comfort I'd have to give it to the GTP. It's damn big, you sit like a king inside with so much space. The TL-S is by no means cramped iether. As for features and things like that the GTP and the TL-S are tied.

build quality IM ASSUMING would go to acura, interior looks imo go to acura too, looks, i like the GTX with ramair probably better than the acura but i like both, turning acura will probably take it, straight line they are close, modding ( i know he doesnt want to mod) the gtp will take it. price the gtp takes it. its pretty close of a comparison i think.

No comparison. I know of nobody who would be considering these two cars against each other. One is a Grand Prix, available on very corner and the othe is a rarer Acura.

In terms of class and dad the Acura is a very classy sporty car. Why does it have to be FWD? insurance?. Maybe the new Jaguar X-Type would be a slick car as well but I dont know if its FWD. It sure would be more on the cusp of cars since it just came out.

The X-type is AWD. Although its base price isn't much more then the CL type S, when comparably equipped the X-type is significantly more, a la 3 series.

The X-type is slow as ASS. 8.5sec to 60? Get da hell outta heya.

X-class isn't tha that bad and with all the quality rating for Jaguar it seems like a smart descion. That said I'd get a BMW , Audi and Lexus before..

grand prix gtp isnt all that more prevelant than the cl-s...there are more, yes, but not all that many, esp if you got a black one with black tinted windows it would look hot

the xtype jag is nice, and its fast i think that one dude was right 0-60 in 6.9 and its cheap for a jag and has a great interior (as does the cl-s) bmw 330 is nice.

you know...waht i really wouldnt mind picking up is a couple year old sc300, drop supra engine and tranny in...oh yes...
