After reading this page and implementing these techniques, i found that they greatly helped.
This is to prevent you from getting into the wrong gear when downshifting and blowing up your engine (something that can happen with most cars, and especially prevalant in the M3.. it's debated whether it's driver's error or the car's fault).

yea those are really neat techinques. I actaully learned something, to think that I haven't always been shifting correctly. Maybe the next time I race Stealth I could win with the shifting.
Wait, I lost big time last time, so I doubt that! :)

You don't have to worry about the gas pedal. You do have to worry about your tranny.

If your engine has a limiter, you can't overrev it by holding it in one gear too long, but you can still do it by downshifting into the wrong gear (5th to 2nd at high speed).

Yeah, I use that method in my 5-speed Integra; it works really smooth. I actually started out with the "full-fist manhandle" when I first got my license but found that this works a lot better and it's better on the engines in these high-rev twincam cars.

The only shift my car has trouble with is 2-3...and that's more an issue of me letting up on the clutch early when i'm driving it hard (might happen once every couple months :( ). I've never downshifted into 2nd instead of 4th...but occasionally will choose second instead of 3rd when I misjudge my exit speed from a corner...again a mental mistake. Is this shifting technique supposed to be faster in some way? My car has a natural tendancy to go from 2nd to 3rd on the upshift, so i've never had to hunt for it or anything...in fact, it won't allow me to go to first if I'm not almost at a complete dead stop. I'll give it a try for a few days and see how it goes though.

If you pull hard enough from 3-4 you can accidently yank it into 2nd if you hold the shifter the wrong way... learned that one the hard way :)

i dunno about ur cars, but for me the easiest shifts were upshifting 2-3, and 3-4. Downshifting was 4-3. When ur car is in neutral isn't i located between 3 and 4?
