got this frum another forum:

"if you're modding your car do it properly and don't go for ultimate looks... my friend just bought a new 2001 gmc yukon denali over the summer, lowered it 7" up front and 9" in the back and put on 22" rims. in all honesty, the truck looked amazing, and i hate trucks. he drove over a little pothole, that you'd expect a stock denali to handle no problem (jeez my accord would have flew over it), but he bottomed out hard and fooked his suspension. he broke two control arms, bent two rims, and ripped off some moulding. by lowering the vehicle (plus some other mods) he voided the warranty (which is a pretty stupid thing to do on any american vehicle, i don't care what it is): the total was like $7000 for parts and labour!!! the thing is his truck is still lowered and he's still flossing 22's; but he drives it like a baby over the slightest bumps. i mean really what's the point if you've got to come to almost a complete stop to go up a drive way,
lowering a vehicle shoud be done for optimal handling (ie. flat and neutral) not for looks, you posers"

I knew a kid back in high school whose parents bought him a 3 series who did something like that. Tires were obviously not as large, but the end result was the same. He couldn't enter a driveway without bottoming out. Didn't even show the car or anything, just used it as a daily driver. Oh well, their money, their loss.

Man, where I come from (Manila), there are a lot of guys like that. I even know this guy who couldn’t drive fast enough on the highway or else his front bumper would scrape. Then there’s this another guy whose car was so low he would hit the reflectors on the road.

7 & 9" is alot..even for a truck. You'd think he'd enough common sense to not at least make it streetable but I guess not.

Man That truck musta been sitting almost right ont he ground. I thought when you lower stuff that far you'd use airbags. So It would still have the lowered look, but be high enough so it would be able to drive on the streets safely.

I wonder how stupid is he?

Why not install the new air lift/lowering kits on the truck? He can raise is when driving to clear normal road debris. Then lower when parked for that, "I'm even cooler than I think!!!" look.

kinda defeats the purpose of having a truck in the first place

I agree. I guess being almost a generation older than most that are on this forum, I don't understand why modify a vehicle that you drive around, some I see it is their only vehicle to drive!
A couple of the highschool kids in my area have put hydraulics on their street cars. Very proffesional, but dumb! The car rides like a semi-truck in normal ride height. Then, they haven't rienforced the frame and I know it's sitting in the garage until winter is over so the kid can repair it. But, from the crowds around the cars on Friday/Saturday night in the parking lots downtown, they were poplular and got the girls. I hope the thousands of dollars invested was worth it!
