The striking new Toyota two-seater sports car revealed in two weeks ago in Auto Express magazine will get the go-ahead on the back of the firm's decision to enter Formula One racing.
The FXS roadster debuted at last week's Tokyo Motor Show, where sources told Auto Express it's a safe bet the car will go into production. A final decision is likely to be made early next summer, after the Japanese company's first few grands prix of the 2002 season.

The open-top FXS – it stands for Future Experimental Sports car – will be powered by a 4.3-litre V8 powerplant coupled to a six-speed sequential gearbox.

I actually was pretty sure this was going to happen. The only thing that threw me off was the name “FXS� (Future experimental sports) which gave me doubt.

I figured they would produce this or very close considering the money they must have put down, creating a new chassis and such.

I like the car… However I can’t stand that front and those 3 spokers got to go too. Performance and such isn’t known. However I’ll see if I can dig up more information/pictures and such.

That is one of the ugliest cars that I have ever seen. If Toyota produces it they will be making a HUGE mistake. Im not doubting that the car will be blindingly fast. I think that they should keep the chassis/drivertrain/engine, but instead of making a revolutionary design they should evolve the 2000GT or even the MKIV supra.

They should.... Change that front and publicly execute whoever designed the current front.

Well I've yet to figure out hp figures.. but I found out from The Japanese Toyota site that..

It has 50/50-weight distribution and is about 2850 lbs.

The Redline has also been bumped up to 8000 R.P.M. as it is 6350 R.P.M. in the SC430.

Toyota says..

Toyota has dubbed it.. "The Soul of Toyota"...

Front end reminds me of an old steam-engined train or something. Gotta change. Back is great, but the side view, too is hampered by that funky front end.

Looking at the hood, I can't see it looking like that come production time...

The front is nasty.. I like the side and rear though. Reminds me of a bugged out F-type.
