I am happy with my stock monsoon 10 speaker system for now. If I do upgrade, Cerwin Vega is the route I am taking.

my eclipse has an infinity stock system 220watts. The MR2 Turbo has stock system, and I have no clue how audio works but I know i love the radio so I am just gonna give my friend 1000$$ and tell him to make my stereo better. he is a self-proclaimed audi guru.
I like the stereo faces that have flashy electronics. thats about the extent of my stereo knowledge...
Sony xplode is that red cover right? it looks cool. why does so many people get it its cheap?

I have a sony headunit, wired into a sony 4 inch color television, which displays the CD and what track and time and what not. There is no faceplate on the cd unit because its a stealth cd player, there is just a little slit in a piece of plastic that you slide CD's into. From the tv to an alpine 350 amp. Bose mids and tweeters up front. No back speakers, except for a custom side box for a 10 inch Xcant(sp) sub. Its a pretty tight little package considering my car is so small it sounds good. :)

Man so many of u guys have the Sony HUs........
From all my research and readings and gatherings and findings and what nots, Sony HUs are the shittiest HUs to buy cuz they are plain shitty and break down easily......
I was about to almost get one of those new Xplod ones but then didn't cuz of that..........
Are they all working fine for u guys?
I'm lookin at this Eclipse HU rite now which costs freakin $500, including installation, harness and kit........ And a damn good ass warranty coverage.........

I don’t know much about music systems either. I just listen to my man Geo and Kepone too. They are both pretty knowledgeable and haven’t let me down yet.
However a friend of mine has a bad ass Panasonic head unit. It lights up her whole car (Miata so no big deal) and it is this shade of blue which is the shit I think. It fits the color of her car perfect. First thing I do to my next EPV (Elite Performance Vehicle) will be to throw a nice system into it. I’m not exactly sure how I will do it, but I do want one that can play MP3 files. So I don’t need to lug around a ridiculous amount of CDs which I hate.

Mecca there are MP3 HU available now which plays the MP3s as well as regular CDs, which I'm assuming would also play CD-Rs, CD-WRs and all that other shit........
They cost kinda more but by the time u get this so-called "EPV" I'm sure the prices would be completely dropped....... :D

My faceplate is ****ed because I dropped it in water, then threw it when I got a ticket, so... yeah... it's screwed, but by my own fault.

From the lowliest Rampage Audio, to the elite Pioneer P9300, I must have it all! *insert evil laugh*
Whoever tells you that SOny HUs are shit, they are just talking out of thier ass. I got the 550 and it sounds so nice even w/ the stock speakers and it has never had any problems. People have to me that they suck but they really dont know what thier talking about. If any one here has a Sony HUs that has probelms id like to know about it.

Which are the best? I am not very knowledgable on speakers.

For speakers? Well this is really widely open to debate, but since I've been into the hobby for most of my life, I guess I have a good idea on which is the best. Well for a start I’ve tried almost all the brands our there. The more popular brands like Cliff, MB Quart, and Boston Acoustics are not even considered to be in the top classes. If I were to make a shortlist on the best speakers it would be:
1) Focal
2) DynaAudio
3) Diamond Audio
4) A/D/S
I would not go anymore into the nitty gritty of why these speakers are better, as to not to be too technical. To put it simply they just sound better. I know some people say that they are happy with their speakers, but most of the people who say that haven’t heard the better systems out there. The fact is that audio systems start to sound better as you’re used to them. The only time you realize how bad they sound is when you get to listen to your friend’s setup.
Focal and DynaAudio are actually neck and neck, but Focal is the best at present. I was actually a big fan of DynaAudio, but after hearing Focals I never looked back. The problem with DyanAudio is that it requires an amp with a relatively high output to sound good, but even then it is not as good as Focals. These are the no. 1 speakers in Europe, and I’m sure no one can deny just how good these babies sound. Just be sure to get a good system along with it. If you’re not getting amps, equalizers, crossovers, and a sub, then you’re not realizing the full potential of these speakers. Also make sure that you get a good HU. When I first got my bimmer I didn’t want to touch the HU, so I put in my system with the stock HU. As soon as I listened to the first notes I immediately knew that there was a problem. Anyway I ended up with the Alpine HU and was expecting a 15-20% increase in sound quality. It turned out to be more like 100%, honestly. It was only then that I realized how much the HU also plays a part. But then again it could also be because of how bad the stock HU of my e46 was. It didn’t even have RCA outs or a remote to turn on the amps!
Anyway,go with the Focals you won’t regret it and it doesn’t hurt to buy really great speakers; at least you know you can use them even with your next car.

you seem to undestand sound systems. I on the other hand only know that when i hear a differet sound system I can immediately tell what is better.
I like playing classic rock loudly, but unfortunately the stock systems I usually listen to can't stay clear when they reach te upper echelon. I know what I wat to hear, I just dont know how.
I just want somene who can tell me wht to buy that is best value. Sure a speaker may be te best but at 2000$$ it isnt exactly affordable to me.
if you were to put togethor a qualty full sound system for a very small car what would be a good combo. All I know is sony:
I wanted to et that "worlds smallest 6 disc changer for the glovebox,th 5 disc minidisc changer, with the MP3 head unit. But the mp3 ays it doesnt play tv tuner or minidisc changer?does that make sense?
In terms of speakers, amps. subwoofers.I am clueless how much power u need. I want a system thats like 1000 Watts

With regards to the head unit, if it says it cannot play other systems usually it’s right. The capabilities of systems differ from one another, so you usually get what you pay for. In terms of your budget, you don’t really need something expensive. The best way to go is to get superb speakers, then maybe spend less on the amp. 1000 Watts is really a hell of power. Just make sure that when you read the labels it doesn’t say 1000W PMPO, peak music power output, since this is not the right basis for the rating the power of the amp. The right way is for example, one of my amplifiers has 55X4, meaning that you can plug in the front speakers to two outlets, and the rear speakers to the other two so that each speaker gets 55 Watts. You also have the option to bridge, or to combine the wattage and plug it all in to power your subwoofer, this would be 55 watts times 4= 220 watts, versus the 55 watts for each speaker. The drawback is that you’re using the whole amp for one component, then you’ll have to get another amp for the speakers. The main difference in amps is usually the power output and reliability, and options for some brands. Usually, amps made in Asia are overrated while US amps are a bit underrated. That’s why an Asian made 100 watt amp maybe less powerful than a US made 80 watt amp. If you always listen to music LOUD then I suggest you get reliable amps, since the fault of cheap amps usually come one in high volumes, when the sound becomes distorted. The best brands are Mckintosh, Audison, etc. but these are too expensive and I would only recommend if you have the best of other components. For excellent performance vs. price I would go for Precision Power, Soundstream, and Rockford Fosgate.
As with subwoofers, there are also a number of brands that are very good but expensive too. Again if you want great performance vs. price, then the best choices are between Kicker and JL Audio. Go with Kicker if you want strong, hard bass. JL Audio on the other hand, is well known for it’s clarity, and just a tad less stronger than Kicker. Also remember to have the subwoofer enclosed in a box to increase its resonance.
Take a look again at the specs that I have on the previous page, I’m sure you’ll be really happy with that kind of a system. My speakers though are what really makes the difference. Just to give you an idea, these are ROUGH ESTIMATES in prices, depends where you buy them actually. By the way, prices might be higher now since the makers of my amp came out with a new line
Focal Utopia 6 piece separates $800
Focal PolyKevlar 6 piece separates $500-600
Precision Power Amp 55X4 (Art Series) $250-300
Precision Power Amp 55X2 $150-200
Precision Power Active Crossover $100-150
Audio Control Equalizer $200-250
JL Audio W0 12” subwoofer $150
You don’t really need to spend that much on speakers actually if a 6 piece system can’t fit it your car and you don’t want people drilling holes to fit them in, then buy 4 piece systems, they’re around 40% less than the 6 piece counterparts. Also, if you want to save money, then get really good speakers for the front and somewhat good ones at the back, just make sure they’re the same brand, since manufacturers develop their systems in different ways. Then put more gain into the front speakers so that the rear will just act as a filler. Believe me unless you’re a certified audiophile you won’t have any complaints.
