I just bought a 1996 pontiac firebird and i am trying to take out the stock intake box with the filter in it and replace it with a cone K&N air filter to get more power. but i wasnt sure about the box to the right of it where the air enters first......there is a little flat box thing sitting on top of it that says GUIDE with wires plugged into the top of it.... i was wondering if anyone knew what this was and if it even has anything to do with the air intake or if it was just an easy place to mount something that has nothing to do with it. If any one knows any help would be appreciated....thanks.

Can you take a picture of the engine bay and post it so we have a better idea as to what you are talking about?

I think a picture would help too if possible. Also.. the open element verus the stock air box might help a little but remember you are going to be pulling in hot air from under the hood. If there is a way for you to make up a way to actually pull the air from outside the engine bay this will be a big help.
Good luck!

unfortunatly i have no way of taking a pic and putting it on here. i think i we may have figured out that it has nothing to do with the air intake thogu witch is a really good thing....and im hopeing to convert it to a cold air intake at some point ...but for now this is just a little booster
