hi - new here.
we just bought my wife - a '95 vw cabrio - last month.
the wipers just died. I replaced the motor and now the wipers only work on high.. when she turns them off, they stop on the windsheild exactly where the motor was shut off. there should be a high/ low & intermittant.
i looked in the chiltons and they give a long repair consisting of the removal of the air bag to get in to change the switch.
Any help or recommendations would be appreciated. New to working on this vehicle.
Thanks

Thanks Detroit
i checked out the relay and there does seem to be a break in circuit.
i will get out my sodering gun and see if i can take care of it.
the relay was clicking so - thanks - i would not have even thought to check it.
question: how do i still know it it IS the relay or the wiper switch that needs to be changed?
I will look into fixing or getting another relay... can it still be a switch problem
please advise and thanks in advance

I doubt its the switch because it still works on other speeds, they usually go out all together or so mine have in the past with numerous gm vehicles.
Id replace the relay and see where you're at from there.

Thanks again.
I think it's the relay also.
I have checked Autozone but they do not seem to stock/get relays.
Any suggestion to WHERE to get relays these days??

Its either the relay or a faulty new wiper motor.

being that it is older the part from vw shouldnt be more than $5 just swap it out as cheap insurance then if that doesnt work it is the switch afterall

Hello All,
So far i checked with a friend who also believes as detroit does... it's the relay.
Right now we are using the blades only on high if we need them while i look for a relay.
it looks like i will need to buy it one off the internett - i checked and the stores do not
deal with this part. i have seen it online for $40!!! so much for a $5 part.
Does anyone have any on-line vendor they like to deal with?? w/good pricing??
Thanks again !

If you do end up removing the airbag, these models have a 30 minute wait time between disconnecting the battery and removing the airbag! Only on the carbiolets... make sure to wait this time and ground yourself on a door hinge pin if you do remove it.
