I recently purchased a 1999 Volvo AWD S70. It has about 160K on the engine. Seems to run fine and I love the vehicle but it has had a whine of various degrees on and off over the month I have owned it. Recently it has been louder and more persistent. The intensity goes up and down with the car speed and there seems to be a drop off and pick up as the automatic transmission changes gears. My mechanic is not a well versed Volvo guy but he thinks it may be in the AWD gear system. Any similar problems experienced or ideas. I live in central Ontario and experience colder winter driving.
