My Jetta TDI refuses to start if the temperature is below 20 degrees F. I use anti-gel additive, but in the morning I'm stuck until the temp rises. I need advice for warming the engine...dipstick heater, tank heater, block heater???
What are my options and what can anyone recommend? And where can I find and purchase it?
How about it, Canadians? I can't be the only one with this problem...and I heard VW included a block heater in the 2004 TDIs. Please Help!
Thanks!!!

Blown_SC is from Canada, he may be able to give you some advice. I've never had to deal with those climate conditions as I live in Las Vegas, so I can't offer much help. I'm sure either Blown_SC or someone else will be able to answer your question for you though :)

warm up your battery. my dad's 99 suburban deisel doesn't like to start cold either. in fact, he plugs it into an extension cord at night...but i dunno where he got the plug or what it's hooked up to.

edit: did a google search on diesel cold start and got this website:

beru glow plugs (http://www.beru.com/english/produkte/dieselkaltstart.php)

They didn't supply Block Heaters. They finally released a recirculating coolant heater in 2004. They work quite well and will give you heat inside quicker as well. Check with your local VW dealer. They should have them or can at least get one in for you. I've seen aftermarket ones, but I have also seen quite a few less than a year later leaking.

Also as for Golden Chicken's post. They come with either Beru or Bosch glowplugs already. As to which you have, flip a coin ;)
