View Full Version : 95 Taurus Short in #1 fuse

The Problem: When I press the brake pedal the 15amp #1 fuse blows, and it will not allow me to shift gears.
Known Troubleshooting: So far I have replaced the "Brake light Switch". I have also used a volt meter at the fuse box. Volt test gave me a reading of 14 amps when the brake pedal was depressed. I used a 30amp fuse and it shorts those as well.

Please, please, please can someone give me guidance. I am at my wits end, but I have faith that someone in this forum knows exactly where I should begin. You help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

It sounds like you have a direct short, not a faulty switch

Thank you for replying so soon. Yes, I have checked the voltage before and during the depressing of the brake. The #1 fuse blows everytime I press the brake. The hazard lights, turn and tail lights all work fine. only the brakelights don't work. I disconnected all plugs leading to the brakelights and then pressed the brake and recieved the same result, a blown fuse.
