Well, I ****ing got in a pickle today, I was going on pretty windy roads today, with the sun at a horrible spot and *******s roaming.

I was going up a small hill with the sun blinding me, some dick with a 1970 peiceofshithugetub was in the middle of the road, I, barely seeing him, swurve to my right, well, I missed him but being blinded and distracted I did not realized I was already 1-2 feet off the road on the left side, seconds later I was met by a nice yellow steel pole.

I am looking to see if anyone knows how much this would cost me to fix, I don't have my digital camera to show the actual carnage so I just used Paint and outlined stuff.

The red indictates scratches, some of these scratches you can see the steel, some you can't, they are just yellow or white scratches.

Blue is dents this ****ing pole hit me pretty nice. Bigger blue = big dent, small = small dent

I really don't know what kind of money I'm looking at, perhaps I could repaint myself? Any tips?

Honestly, it's not HORRIBLE, some of the yellow paint left over can be rubbed off, of course the white and steel can't be rubbed off.

My dad, someone who worked with construction vehicles for along time, fixed them, etc, so he is auto savy is telling me $700+ to get painted alone and probably $400+ for the dents. I want to do it myself, but I was shut down by him saying I would do a shit job.

Ouch, atleast you didn't get hurt. Take it to a couple other body shops and get estimates, I am really not sure what something like that would cost to fix as it involves both bodywork and paint. It won't be cheap, but won't be as bad as repainting the whole car. Did you get the guy's license plate number or did he stop?

Also, are you reporting this to your insurance or are you going to get it fixed on your own?

most average repairs like that cost anywhere between 350.00 and 500.00 per panel in a bodyshop.

also note that doing the repairs yourself is sometimes more costly.. believe it or not.. the material cost these days is a average of $40 per sprayable pint.. paint, hardner, reducer ect. then the clear is what kills your pocket book.. so since your paint is a two-stage paint im sure it would be better to find a shop...

you can always have it painted single stage to save money,, but not much..

hope this helps..

Good advice above. It would be best left to a pro...

Thanks for the help!

No, I didn't get his license plate, he just kept going, not even stopping at the stop sign.

I'm keeping insurance out of it, mainly because we just put 3 new vehicles and added my 16 year old sister to our insurance so our insurance has sky rocketed, will only get worse if I file this.

The yellow pole was not injured!
