Well what are your goals for the car? Performance? Looks? Hydraulics? Car Audio?
Give more info and I'll give you some pros and cons

A lot of cars can get good speed going, but this will be really un-econmic as far as gas mileage is concerned. You'd be better off with other vehicles, but if you have your heart set on the impala then by all means get one. It's not my taste, but I know others who love em.

I would imagine so, most cars from the 70s and 80s were not fuel efficient.

Lol true. Anyhow do you have anything good to say about this car? Or in your mind it's just not a great car.

I really don't have an opinion as the car isn't in my taste, but I'm sure others will give ya more feedback either positive or negative. ;)

uhhh its kinda....uhhhh.....not the best....how much are you lookin to spend on a car. If you dont have much $$$ then buying an older car will probably just cost you more $$$ in the long run. Just a thought.

Now bear in mind that this is a kneejerk opinion I have of US cars in the early to mid 80's. There was a big push for cleaner, more effiicient cars at that time, and the US auto industry did alot of steppin' and fetchin' to try to address those requirements. (In my opinion) that led to alot of cars being built, which really shouldn't have. As a result, you may want to see if there is alot of ad hoc emmisions systems "put" into the cars which basically snipped the balls right off the engines.
1) How much are you looking to spend on this basic trans car?
2) How long to you expect it to last?
3) How handy are you with light maintanence tasks?

If you answer some of the questions we can help you out with more pro's and cons and help educate you on whether or not its a good decision for you.

For a daily driver I would say its not bad. 305 is the cid. Not the hp. They are somewhere around 175 horsepower back then they are uber slow. But if its just a daily driver and you aren't hot rodding it and its under 1500 I say go for it

I paid more then 1500 only because it was mint. I've never seen a car in better shape then this one.

i got an 83 diesel impala with a perfect body payed 100$ cuz top fuel pump was out (and is out again) was a BIG pain the tool it NEEDS is a 1200$ tool so ya it herts but luckyt me a friend got at a gaurage sale for $3.50 lol and i have no problem with the way they ride my bigest prob with them is sometimes you dont feel you are going fast in them when you are going like 120mph so its easy to get poled over thats cuz the body size tho overall i rate them very highly the bodys are extreamly strong i won $20 from some1 who bet they could kick a dent in the fender hehe he broke his toe trieing so they would be a good demo or a safe accident car ... only thing left to say about it is have fun and doing mods ( at least the diesel version) are easy

My friend has a 77 2-door impala that is awesome. Even thought it's not in mint condition it looks like one of the coolest cars around. I love the big body cars from back in the day.
