hey evyerone.

my girlfriend blew out the rear speakers on her 00 sunfire se sedan. i bought her a new set and attempted to replace them. i folded down the back seat and removed the two plastic pegs that hold the front of the shelf. now i'm stuck.

i can't get the parcel shelf out. it feels as if the plastic trim on the c-pillars is preventing the shelf from sliding out. the guys at my local pontiac dealer said to pull off the trim by simply yanking, but i'm hesitant--i'm worried about breaking the pegs or however the trim is attached.

is there a way to finagle the shelf out without removing the trim? i have to slide it out because the seat belts go through the shelf. if i have to remove the trim, is there a better way than simply yanking until it pops off?

thanks much in advance

Pulling trim pieces without breaking clips can be a challenge. I've found the best way to do it is to use a flat screw driver and pull from the bottom up. If you yank the plastic pannels with your hands you have a greater risk of breaking plastic clips. On most newest GM vehicles however, the pannels are held in by metal clips, so you don't have to worry about break them. Try pulling on them and if you can get one section at a time to come off, that is the best way to go about it.

there is a panel remover tool you should invest in. runs like 5-10 from a tool dealer its made for fords but works on all snap panel cars such as yours. Cheap way is a big flat screwdriver and have some fun
